Can the equation above be used to solve the following problem? If not, why?

Answer: Yes, Assuming we are solving for x and the equation is equal to 0. x = -5.25

Explanation:

1) combine like terms which in this case are the x's = 1

(1)x + 5.25 = 0

I will drop the one in front of the x because we 1 times x is x.

2) x + 5.25 = 0

subtract 5.25 from both sides

3) x = -5.25
