The Eruption of Mount Vesuvius happened in August of 79 CE. A whole bunch of earthquakes were occurring throughout the years, which led to the Eruption. The city of Pompeii didn't rreally know that Vesuvius was a volcano, so when it erupted they didn't really know what was going on. In the end, the entire city was covered in ash and pumice, so all of the citizens were either asphyxiated or crushed by falling debris.
