The cost to hire a moving company is $75 an hour with a fee of $150 for the day.

You have budgeted $800 for the moving costs.
You will construct and solve a linear equation to determine how many hours the movers
can be hired given your 800 budget.
Step 1: Determine what varies and what remains constant form the scenario.

well, the charge by the company is $150, usually for setup costs to do the work, so that doesn't include any moving at all, then any hours the workers will be spending doing the moving will be $75 per hour, so the 150 bucks is static whilst the hourly rate is varaible. Check the picture below.

now we can solve the equation this way

y=150+75x\implies \stackrel{\textit{your budget}}{800}~~ = ~~150+75x \\\\\\ 650=75\implies \cfrac{650}{75}=x\implies \cfrac{26}{3}=x\implies \stackrel{ \textit{8 hours and 40 minutes} }{8(2)/(3)=x}

The cost to hire a moving company is $75 an hour with a fee of $150 for the day. You-example-1
