PEMDAS

parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction.

[4(x-8) + 24]

multiply x and 4 to get 4x

multiply 4 and 8 to get 36.

4x - 36 + 24

[-3(x+7)-43]

multiply -3 and x to get -3x

multiply -3 and 7 to get -21

-3x - 21 - 43

now that we have solved each parenthesis portion, combine them

4x - 36 + 24 - (-3x) - 21 - 43

this leaves you with

x - 30
