Answer :

  • v = 1.5 ± 1.658 [3.158 & -0.158]

Solution :

  • - (v {}^(2) - 3v \: + 5) = - v \: + 3v \: - 5

Using quadratic formula,

  • x = \frac{ - b \: ± \: \sqrt{b {}^(2) \: - \: 4ac} }{2a \: } \\

Where,

  • x = v
  • a = -1
  • b = +3
  • c = -5

Plugging in the values,

  • v = \frac{- 3± \sqrt{( 3) {}^(2) -4( - 1)( - 5) } }{2( - 1)} \\

  • v = (- 3± √(9 -20) )/( - 2) \\

  • v = (- 3± √( - 11 ) )/( - 2) \\

  • v = ( 3± √( 11 ) )/( 2) \\

  • v = (3)/(2) ± (1 √(11) )/(2) \\

  • v = 1.5 \: \: ± 1.658

  • v_ 1 = 1.5 + 1.658 = 3.158

  • v_2 = 1.5 - 1.658 = - 0.158

Thus, the factors of -(v² - 3v + 5) are 3.158 & -0.158.
