Passage 1 Bogie and Pica chased after a cat. Finally, the cat climbed a fence and jumped into a backyard. “He got away,” Bogie growled. “Do you know where we are?” Pica asked. “No, I do not remember this street,” Bogie answered. “I think we are lost,” Pica cried. “We can smell our way back,” Bogie said. The dogs tracked their scent in circles. They learned that the cat had led them all over the place. The dogs were feeling hungry and scared. “Pica! Bogie! Where are you?” The dogs’ owner called. The dogs ran in the direction of their owner’s voice. They jumped right into their owner’s arms. Passage 2 Isabella turned around to ask her mom if she could have a new toy. Isabella’s mom was not there. “Mom, where are you?” Isabella called. She did not answer. Isabella looked for her mom. She could not find her. Isabella started to get scared. Then, she had an idea. Isabella went to the front of the store. She asked a worker to call her mom over the loudspeaker. Isabella’s mom rushed to the front of the store. “I could not find you,” Isabella said. “I am so sorry. I started talking to a friend over by the books. I did not see where you went. You are a smart girl! You did the right thing.” Isabella’s mom said. 1 The passages are different because A. in the first passage, the main characters try to solve their problem; in the second passage, the main character does nothing to solve her problem. C. in the first passage, the main characters hear their names being called; in the second passage, the main character calls for someone else. Answer:

A.

Step-by-step explanation:

The correct answer is A. The passages are different because in the first passage, the main characters (Bogie and Pica) try to solve their problem (getting lost and chasing a cat), while in the second passage, the main character (Isabella) does take action to solve her problem (getting separated from her mom in a store by asking a worker to call for her mom).
