Answer:

5(s-12)-24 = 3(s+2)

1) we simplify each expression

5s-60-24 = 3s+6

5s-84 = 3s+6

2) we solve:

5s-84 = 3s+6

5s-3s=6+84

2s = 90

s = 90/2 = 45

solution: the value of s:45

3) we check: we replace s by the value found

5s-84=5*45-84=141

3s+6 = 3*45+6=141

Answer:

s = 45

Explanation:

5(s - 12) - 24 = 3(s + 2) ← distribute parenthesis on both sides

5s - 60 - 24 = 3s + 6 ← simplify left side by collecting like terms

5s - 84 = 3s + 6 ( subtract 3s from both sides )

5s - 3s - 84 = 3s - 3s + 6 ( simplify )

2s - 84 = 6 ( add 84 to both sides )

2s - 84 + 84 = 6 + 84 (simplify )

2s = 90 ( divide both sides by 2 )

(2)/(2) s =
(90)/(2) , that is

s = 45

As a check , substitute s = 45 into the equation and if both sides are equal then s = 45 is the solution.

left side : 5(45 - 12) - 24 = 5(33) - 24 = 165 - 24 = 141

right side : 3(45 + 2) = 3(47) = 141

since both sides are equal then s = 45 is the solution
