\cfrac{1}{3}y+\cfrac{1}{4}=\cfrac{5}{12}\implies \cfrac{y}{3}+\cfrac{1}{4}=\cfrac{5}{12}\implies \stackrel{\textit{multiplying both sides by }\stackrel{LCD}{12}}{12\left( \cfrac{y}{3}+\cfrac{1}{4} \right)=12\left( \cfrac{5}{12} \right)} \\\\\\ 4y+3=5\implies 4y=2\implies y=\cfrac{2}{4}\implies y=\cfrac{1}{2}
