Find the difference of 5.482 x 1012 and 3.2 x 1012.

Explanation:

you mean 10¹² (and not 1012), right ?

but the principle would be the same.

remember

a×b - c×b = (a - c)b

the same for addition

a×b + c×b = (a + c)b

so,

5.482 × b - 3.2 × b = (5.482 - 3.2) × b = 2.282 × b

we can put now b = 1012 or b = 10¹², the result is either

2.282 × 1012

or

2.282 × 10¹²

you pick based on whatever is the real number in the question.

The difference is 2.282 x 10^12.
