Two shelves are on a wall with one directly above the other. One shelf is 4 5/6 feet above the floor and the other is 5 9/10 feet above the floors find the distance between the shelves.

4 (5)/(6) ft above the floor and the other is
5 (9)/(10) ft above the floor. Since the shelves are directly above one another, we can simply compute the difference to find the distance between them,


= 5 (9)/(10) ft - 4(5)/(6) ft


= (59)/(10) ft - (29)/(6) ft

Taking LCM for a common denominator,


= (59 * 3 - 29 * 5)/(30) ft


= (32)/(30) ft

Dividing 2 from both numerator and denominator for getting the simplest fraction,


= (16)/(15) ft

Expressed in mixed fraction,


= 1(1)/(15) ft

~The distance between the selves is 1 1/15 feet.
