Explanation:

34.

they have to earn more than $400 to have money left at the end. each ticket they can sell for $4. and they start with $72 from the previous bake sale (which they have even if they sell 0 tickets).

so,

400 < 4t + 72 | subtract 72 from both sides

400 - 72 < 4t + 72 - 72

328 < 4t | divide both sides by 4

328/4 < 4t/4

82 < t

or

t > 82

I cannot see which original answer option is that (C or D). so, please pick the one that says exactly this above.

FYI : if your teacher considers the break-even point (you have exactly as many expenses as income : the difference is 0) as "money left", then you need to change the equality sign to t >= 82.

but I bet that the first answer (that indicates they end up with more than $0) is correct.

35.

2 - 6(-5t + 1) | multiply the bracket

2 + -6×-5t + -6×1

2 + 30t - 6

30t - 4 (answer C)

remember, -×- = +

but what if your manual correction is wrong ?

then it would seemingly be

2 - 6(-5t - 1) | multiply the bracket

2 + -6×-5t + -6×-1

2 + 30t + 6

30t + 8
