A school event requires 4 adults for every 35 kids. 16 adults are available. How many kids can attend

Answer: 140 kids can attend.

Explanation:

  1. Find the Unit rate of how many kids per one adult. With the ratio of
    (35)/(4) we can find out that for every one adult, theres 8.75 kids.
  2. However, one can not really have ".75" of a kid, and rounding altogether would not make our numbers any more applicable, since there are only so many adults for so many kids.
  3. Do 8.75*16 to find out that 140 kids can attend with the supervision of 16 adults at the school event. Since 140 is an even number, there are no further calculations.
