To win the annual read-a-thon at his school, Ed has to read more books than any of his

classmates over winter break. He starts by reading a lot of sports books. Then, he reads 8
mystery books. In all, Ed reads 24 books for the read-a-thon.
Which equation can you use to find the number of sports books n Ed reads?
n+ 8 = 24
n-8=24
8n = 24
n
8
= 24

n + 8 = 24

The total number of books is 24, we know that Ed has read 8 books as of now. To find the total, we add the amount of books we know he read, and the amount we know he didn’t read.

Leaving us with the equation : n + 8 = 24
