17, 14 and a 1/2, 12 ......... -38

What do all of these have in common?

17 - 5/2 = 14 and a half, 14 and a half - 5/2 = 12, etc.

Each time, we subtract 5/2 (2 and a half) from the number until -38.

17 - x(5/2) = -38

x represents the numbers between 17 and -38. So we have the total terms 17, -38, and everything in between. 2 + x

(x represents all the in between terms)

x(5/2) = 55

x = 55(2/5) = 11 * 2 = 22

22 terms + 2 terms ( 17 and -38) = 24 terms total! :)
