It depends on what experiment is being performed- running the experiment for longer than it should take can give inconclusive results. If the experiment is chemistry based, running an experiment for two long can cause a reaction to happen, or can cause the results to nullify. In general, running an experiment for too long can sway your results and provide inaccurate data.
