The electroscope is an ancient electrical device that was used to study and analyze the charges at rest. The polarity, magnitude, and nature of the interaction were studied using the electroscope. The structure of an electroscope consists of a metal jar with an enclosed cap fitted with a metal rod whose upper end rests outside the jar and the lower end is fitted with two leaves like structures that are repelled or attracted depending upon the nature of the charges. The upper end is generally a metal disc or a metal bob.
