Paramecium caudatum

Paramecium is a unicellular eukaryote that swims in fresh water by beating its cilia. When it hits an obstacle, or when it is stimulated for example chemically or thermally, it produces an action potential, which then triggers a change in direction. For this reason a few authors called it a "swimming neuron". This journal explores Paramecium biology from a neuroscience perspective.
