What is standard form of -2x= y+8

Answer: 2x+y = -8

Work Shown:

-2x = y+8

-2x-y = 8

-1*(-2x-y) = -1*8

2x+y = -8

Side notes:

  • Standard form is Ax+By = C where A,B,C are integers. In this case A = 2, B = 1 and C = -8.
  • Some textbooks require that A > 0, which is why I multiplied both sides by -1.
