Answer:

16w - 24

Explanation:

The first thing we need to do when answering this question is to expand the brackets. To do this, we multiply everything from the inside of the bracket to everything from the outside.

  • 2(4w-2) = 8w - 4
  • 4(2w-5) = 8w - 20
  • 8w - 4 + 8w - 20

Now we need to collect like terms to be able to get our final answer!

  • 8w + 8w = 16w
  • -4 - 20 = -24
  • 16w - 24

Our final answer is 16w - 24

Hope this helps, have a lovely day! :)

Collecting like terms

When we collect like terms, we add terms that contain the same variable, exponent, or both.

Let's apply this method to this exercise.

2(4w - 2) + 4(2w - 5)

8w - 4 + 8w - 20

8w + 8w - 20 - 4

16w - 24

NOTE:

For this exercise, I have combined two methods - not only have I combined the like terms, but I also used the distributive property and distributed first 2, then 4. Then I combined like terms.
