What is a frameshift mutation and what causes it?

a frame shift mutation is a type of mutation where every nitrogenous base is shifted over one spot. it is caused by an addition or deletion to nitrogenous bases (not in pairs of three though because that removes entire codons). this shifting in bases results in different codons.
