If we use a system of equations, we can define the number of hours Luis worked in terms of Carlos.
Carlos = c
Luis = 4c - 3
If their combined hours totaled 72:
c + 4c - 3 = 72
5c = 75
c = 15
Carlos worked 15 hours.
