A radiator contains 8 quarts of fluid, 40% of which is antifreeze. How much fluid should be drained and replaced with pure antifreeze so that the new mixture is 60% antifreeze?

Answer:

8(.4) + .4a - a = .6(8)

3.2 - .6a = 4.8

.6a = 1.6, so a = 2 2/3 quarts
