the spinning jenny
The spinning jenny was developed by James Hargreaves in the 1760s. It allowed a single operator to spin multiple threads simultaneously, greatly increasing the productivity and efficiency of the spinning process. Prior to the spinning jenny, spinning was typically done by hand, and one person could only spin one thread at a time. With the spinning jenny, one person could operate a machine that spun multiple threads simultaneously, typically up to 8 or 16 threads, depending on the model.
