\displaystyle 5+\biggr(-3-(2)/(3)\biggr)\\\\=(15)/(3)+\biggr(-(9)/(3)-(2)/(3)\biggr)\\\\=(15)/(3)-(11)/(3)\\\\=(4)/(3)

By making each term have a denominator of 3, it's easier to combine like terms because of the -2/3 term. Not sure how you got -7, but this is how you would solve the problem.
