What was one reason for the pressure to conform in the 1950s?

Due to the several red scares, people were afraid of being accused of being a Communist. Thus, everyone decided to act similarly in order to not be accused. Conformity at the time was how to be successful too, dress codes were implemented in many jobs along with how someone should behave.
