humans derive no energy from the cellulose molecules in brussels sprouts. does this imply that cellulose molecules, and brussels sprouts in general, are low in chemical energy?

Answer:

No it doesn't mean they have low energy but humans have no digestive character for digesting cellulose.

Their digestive tract lacks bacteria which digest cellulose to obtain energy.
