Explanation:

y=mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept.

Just a quick look at the graph - - - the line is increasing, as x increases, y increases, so our slope should be positive.

We can see the y intercept is -1.

y=mx -1

m = slope = rise/run = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

Pick 2 points (any 2!) so we can find the slope.

(-4,-2) and (8,1)

slope = (-2-1)/(-4-8)

= -3/-12 = 1/4

y = (1/4)x-1
