A heavy box does not move when you push it because of the weight of the box and frictional force acting due to the roughness between the contact surfaces are preventing the box to move further.

In other words, the frictional force balances the force that we apply. So, there is no net movement of this box. It acts in the direction opposite to the force we apply.
