Hope is the Thing with Feathers

By Emily Dickinson
"Hope" is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea,
Yet never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Hope lives inside of all of us, always no matter how it seems. It adds sweetness to our lives

2. Only really really difficult or horrible things could make the bird stop singing (could take away someone's hope)

3. Hope doesn't ask anything of us, it doesn't require anything from us, it just always exists inside us.

I know understanding poetry can be hard, and I honestly hate the way so many teachers make students do things like this to teach poetry, but it can be such a beautiful medium if you take your time with it! I hope this helps!
