Mother Jones got the idea for the March of the Mill Children after seeing the terrible conditions that child laborers were subjected to in the mills. Her goal was to raise public awareness about the issue and pressure the government to pass laws to protect children. According to paragraph 9, she "decided to lead a march of striking children from Philadelphia to the home of President Theodore Roosevelt in New York City to raise awareness of the issue."
