Why did the first continental congress meet in 1774 and what did it do

They met In Philadelphia to discuss the treatment from the British. After the Boston Tea party incident and the mass amount of taxes laid out on the Americans.

In this meeting, they formally declared that Colonists should have the same rights as the English. They also formed the Continental Associate which would later suspend trade with the British.
