He was born in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico, on 19 January 1926 and began his career in music in the late 1940s.
Jiménez wrote and recorded more than 1,000 songs throughout his career, many of which have become enduring classics in Mexican music. He sang in a distinctive, emotive style and his lyrics often dealt with themes of love, heartbreak, and the struggles of everyday life. His most famous songs include “El Rey,” “Ella,” “El Jinete,” and “El Siete Marez.”
Jiménez’s career took off in the 1950s, and he quickly became one of the most popular and successful artists in Mexico. He recorded albums and toured extensively throughout Mexico and Latin America, and also appeared in several films. He also made frequent appearances on Mexican television, becoming a household name in the country.
In addition to his success as a singer, Jiménez was also a talented actor, appearing in more than 20 films throughout his career. He was awarded the Ariel Award for Best Actor for his role in the film “La Yegua Colorada” in 1973.
