Explanation:

Two circles take up 18 cm ...so their diameters are 9 cm each

so the entire rectangle area is 18 * 9 = 162 cm^2

now subtract the AREA of the two circles

162 - TWO * pi (r^2) = 162 - 2 * pi * 4.5^2 = 34.77 cm^2
