"THE CLUB SANDWICH"
This is your first week on the job as a newly-sworn police officer. You performed well in all.of
your college and academy classes and especially enjoyed the training on ethics. On this day,
you and two senior officers clear a lunch break with the dispatcher. You enjoy a pleasant lunch:
a club sandwich, at the local dell. After the meal, your fellow officers get up to leave as you
reach for your wallet. One officer asks, "What are you doing?" You respond, "I'm paying for my
lunch." He says, "Kid, it is on the house. The dell's owner lets uniforms eat here free, so there
Is a police presence during the evening. That's why we eat here." You respond, "At the
academy, we were taught that accepting discounted or free meals could be considered
unethical." Both officers laugh and say, "Kid, forget the Academy, this is the real world."
WHAT DO YOU DO?
