By how much would the mean increase if the number 8 replaced the number 1 in the set?

Answer: 1

Explanation:

Current Mean:

8 + 2 + 5 + 1 + 8 + 2 + 2 = 28

28 / 7 = 4.

So 4 is the current mean.

If you replace 1 with 8:

8 + 2 + 5 + 8 + 8 + 2 + 2 = 35

35/7 = 5

So the new mean is 5.

5 - 4 = 1
