Though the Japanese committed atrocities, many people do not know of this event. It happened right before the outbreak of WWII, why don't you think more people know about these acts?

There are many factors however one of the main factors is a lack of education. Through the American school system, what is taught to students vs what is not taught to students may be biased. People are less likely to be familiar with specific historical occurrences or times if they are not taught about them.
