Seth and 5 friends went to San Diego for a summer weekend. Seth made 14 cups of lemonade. Everyone, including, Seth, wants an equal amount of all the lemonade.

How much lemonade should each person get?

Answer:

2 1/3 cups of lemonade

Explanation:

There are 5 friends that we need to split the 14 cups of lemonade to. If we add Seth, that number becomes 6.

So:

  • 14 ÷ 6 or
    (14)/(6)

How can we convert this fraction into a mixed number?

Well in order to do this, we can take the numerator, in our case it is 14, and divide that by its denominator, which is 6.

  • 14 ÷ 6 = 2 remainder
    (2)/(6) or
    2(1)/(3)

This means that each person should get
(7)/(3) or
2(1)/(3) cups of lemonade.
