Why was the acceptance of the result of the election of 1800 by Adams and the Federalists so important for the US to survive?

Since Adams was the second president, it showed that The United States Democracy system was actually able to work. It allowed the people to move on from Washington and have a different president instead of the US relapsing into having a dictatorship or monarchy. It was crucial that this change between presidents occurred to keep American democracy alive.
