When you have to multiple between numbers and letters in algebra do you keep or remove the x symbol? For example is it 4xY= 20 or 4Y=20?

Most people just stop using 'x' for multiply so it doesn't get confused with the variable x.

So you can just write 4Y = 20.

That means 4 times y equals 20.

Some people write 4 * y = 20. The * also means multiply.

It just keeps it less confusing to NOT use x because we use x as a variable so often, and you can have a term with MULTIPLE variables, so 4xy could easily be a term in an equation.

To me , I think not to waste ink you just use 4y =20
But 4xy =20 is also correct, both are fine
