Which historical figure led a movement in india that was based o resisting colonialism

I believe it was Mahatma Gandhi, or “Gandhi” as everyone calls him. I do not know a lot about what he did. However, I do know that he never used violence during his resistance movement, as that went against his motives of peace. He wanted the British — who had India as one of their colonies — to treat the Indian citizens equally. This is because they made laws that prevented the Indians from doing regular things. Like I said before, I do not know a lot about Gandhi.
