In trigonometry, we use the expression SOHCAHTOA to describe the functions used, which is separated into three triangles. Triangle SOH, triangle CAH, and triangle TOA.

O always refers to ‘opposite’, meaning the side opposite the missing angle.
A always refers to ‘adjacent’, meaning the side next to the angle.
H always refers to the ‘hypotenuse’, meaning the longest side on the triangle.

S is Sine, C is Cosine, T is tangent.

In the above diagram, we are given the hypotenuse, the angle, and x is placed on the opposite side. Therefore, we must use SOH, as it contains opposite and hypotenuse. Now, as divide the opposite by Sin to get the hypotenuse, we must rearrange the equation, and multiply sin by the hypotenuse to get the opposite.
Therefore, we must multiply sin(40) by 19, to give us x.

sin(40) times 19 = 12.21296458….
If we round to 2 decimal places, we get 12.21
