Rizal was accused by the Spanish court of being a leader of the Philippine Revolution and of inciting rebellion against the Spanish colonial government. He was also accused of being a member of the Katipunan, a secret society that aimed to overthrow Spanish rule in the Philippines.
Some of the charges against Rizal were true, while others were not. Rizal was indeed a leader of the Propaganda Movement, which aimed to reform the Spanish colonial government in the Philippines through peaceful means. He also wrote two novels, "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo," which exposed the injustices and corruption of the Spanish colonial government in the Philippines.
However, Rizal was not a member of the Katipunan and did not support the use of violence in achieving Philippine independence. In fact, he opposed the Katipunan's methods and believed that independence could be achieved through peaceful means.
Despite the lack of evidence linking Rizal to the Katipunan, he was still found guilty of rebellion and sedition by the Spanish court and was sentenced to death by firing squad. His execution on December 30, 1896, made him a martyr for the Philippine Revolution and inspired other Filipinos to continue the fight for independence from Spanish colonial rule
