An external conflict is a struggle between a character and an outside force. This can take many forms, such as a physical battle, a disagreement with another character, or a force of nature. For example, a character who is trying to survive in the wilderness and must battle against hunger, thirst, and dangerous wildlife to stay alive would be facing an external conflict, as these obstacles are forces that are outside of the character's control.
