You first arrange them into simultaneous equations with elimination method
3x-Y=1. 3x- -x=4x
-x-Y=5 - -Y- -Y=0
4x. =-4

4x=-4 1-5=-4
X=-1

For y
3x-Y=1
3x-1-Y=1
-3-Y=1
-Y=1+3
-Y=4
