Arsenic is converted to arsenite, which covalently modifies reduced lipoamide, thereby inhibiting the activity of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and blocking the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA
OR
The arsenic-contaminated well water caused inhibition of dihydrolipoyl transacetylase, which is an enzyme subunit required for the metabolism of rice starch, the source of 70% of their daily caloric intake.
