William and Mary's takeover of England is called the Glorious Revolution because it was a relatively peaceful transition of power that resulted in limited bloodshed and established the supremacy of Parliament over the Crown. Unlike many other revolutions, the Glorious Revolution did not involve widespread violence or civil war. Instead, it was a largely bloodless coup in which William and Mary were invited to take the throne by Parliament, which had grown increasingly dissatisfied with the autocratic rule of James II.
