Lymph nodes are part of the lymphatic system, which filters lymphatic fluid and helps fight infections. When pathogens or foreign substances enter a lymph node, they are recognized by immune cells called lymphocytes. The lymphocytes multiply and produce antibodies, which neutralize the pathogens or foreign substances. Once neutralized, they are carried away from the lymph node by lymphatic fluid and eliminated from the body.
