In these Trophic Levels, Ten percent of energy is being passed up from one trophic level to another. Suppose, 10 percent of energy is being passed up from primary producers to primary consumers. Then, again, 10 percent of energy is being passed up from primary consumers to secondary consumers. the rest 90 percent of energy is used for metabolism, excretion, etc. Since producers produce their own food, the Suns energy is being passed down to the producers which are autotrophs. Since, Heterotrophs like the consumers can't produce their own food due to not being able to photosynthesize, The consume 10 percent energy from each trophic level going up
