Paper 1 Section A/B: Germany, 1890-1945: Democracy and dictatorship

Interpretation B
Spoken by George Clemenceau in 1921. George
Clemenceau was President of France through the
First World War and led French negotiations over
the Treaty
Interpretation A
The imposition of reparations on the Weimar
Republic. This was written by Egon Larsen, who
had been a German journalist in the 1920's.
As the terms of peace became known, we
came to realise what it meant to lose a
war against two dozen countries. The cost
of reparations, to be paid by a Germany
which had lost its economic power, was
shattering
Reparations to be paid by Germany were
agreed in 1921 by the League of Nations.
The sum of £6,600 million was only half
of what France had demanded. It was less
than the sum that Germany would have
demanded if they had won the war, and
Germany had until 1984 to pay off the
debt in instalments
1. How does interpretation B differ from interpretation A about the impact of reparations on Germany?

Answer:

The Second Interpretation, Interpretation B provides not only more insight but also shows the impact the reparations were to germany post WW1.

Step-by-step explanation:

The First interpretation does not well describe the impact while the Second does describe the impact of the Reparations. The Second Interpretation gives us more insight to why the reparations played a big role in the German economy but also world history
