Answer:The meaning of "the West" for the U.S. settlers on the East coast of North America from their vantage point, the western part of North America was "the West." From the Spanish colonists in present-day Mexico and south America this area was el Norte or, the North. For the Russians in present day Alaska, it was the East. For the Native groups at the time, was insignificant to the way that they understood the region. The term "the West" for many people meant different things depending on where you lived.
